Gaining Through Losing
With the rising commodity prices, the “weight-watcher” business in Taiwan has found new ways to appeal to the “consumers.” After a weight-loss training session, you can bring home pork weighing equivalent to the weight you’ve lost that day.

The students step on the scale as they leave to see how much they’ve lost and how much pork they’ve gained. “I lost 1.4 kg today!” happily says a student.

But even you’ve lost 5kg (about 11 pound), meaning you can bring home 5kg of pork, which is worth TWD 320, due to the rising prices, the tuition is still more than that. And just think about the weight you’ll gain eating a delicious dish made from the pork!

A Little Love Advice
As many of us are struggling about our career choice, a 10-year-old boy in the US knows what he wants to be—a relationship expert! Eric, a third-grader, has found his calling by publishing a book called “How to Talk to Girls.”

“It’s not only about how to talk to girls, but also about how to make girls talk to you! Girls don’t like boys because they think we’re stupid. So they don’t like to talk to us.” says Eric. Although the book is only 10-page-long, Eric regularly appears on TV talk shows, becoming quite popular soon after the book was published.

Kids in the same age have different responses to his book. “It’s pretty interesting!” say some. But there are kids who think it’s “kinda scary.”
Eric’s next project is to write a book about how to date kids in higher grades.

The KFC Spell Broken after 13 Years

KFC reopened its branch in Hanshin Koshien Stadium, Hanshin Tigers’ home ground. The statue of Colonel Sanders, the founder of KFC’s grand return to the stadium is expected to break the “KFC spell” on the Hanshin Tigers.

This is where the “KFC spell” came from: The Hanshin Tigers’ unusual complex with Colonel Sanders goes far back to 1985, when they first won the league championship. The fans of the Tigers, in wild excitement, threw the statue of Colonel Sanders at a KFC nearby into the river. Colonel Sanders’ “body” was never found, and since then, the Tigers have never again won the championship, not even the regional one.

Masao Watanabe, the chairman of KFC in Japan, half-jokingly said in the grand-opening that now Colonel Sanders is back to the stadium, the team might finally be able to enjoy the sweet fruits of winning the championship again!

The stature of the Third Prince, a deity in Taoism, usually holds only a lance. But what the Third Prince in a Mazu temple in JiaYi City, Taiwan has in hand is a revolver!

Followers are all surprised to see that the Third Prince is also fashionably equipped with a cell phone and a golden abacus.

“ I think this is very fashionable!” When asked if the revolver is what the Third Prince wants, the follower said, “Yes, he asked for it.”

The temple manager says, “He is a very up-to-date divinity. This way we feel closer to him.”
